RI&E Online
RI&EonLine is a program developed by the ECTS that companies and especially the departments and / or work units within companies can use to perform their own risk inventory and evaluation and generate an Action Plan. It is a "MS Access" based intranet application.
Design
The program is 'question driven’ and primarily developed to as much as possible support departments in taking an active approach and taking responsibility for their working conditions.
Before applying the RI&Eonline the instrument is specifically adjusted to reflect the companies’ situation. This means investigating the different company departments and deciding what questionnaires will be assigned to each department. Also, the content of the questions and corresponding explanations and proposed measures will be adjusted if necessary to reflect the specific type of business and related activities. Experience learns that eventually between 60-100 questions need to be answered by each department.
The instrument already includes a large number of questionnaires. Depending on the nature and needs of the company additional questions and / or questionnaires can be added.
Employee engagement
The involvement of employees in performing the risk inventory is very important. To promote this involvement it is recommended that the assigned questionnaires and Action Plan are being filled in by representatives from the department (both workers and management).
All questions must be answered with ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘not applicable’. All questions answered with ‘no’ are automatically included in the "Action Plan". In the end specific attention needs to be given to each focus point:
- the nature of the problem (who, what, where, etc.);
- what specific action will be taken;
- if necessary, what are the costs involved;
- who is responsible for the implementation of the control measures;
- the date on which the problem is set to be solved.
Update
The RIE and the Plan will be updated by keeping a journal for each focus point and by archiving completed actions. Over time, the questionnaires can be reevaluated and new focus points can be added to the Action Plan.
Report(s)
The program has several report options. In this way all stakeholders (management, department management, works council, employees, health and safety coordinator, etc.) are able to follow the progress with regard to the Action Plan. Summary reports can be helpful in determining the occupational health and safety policy. Depending on the wishes of the company reports can be modified or added if necessary.
Quality of the end result
The quality of the end result is guaranteed because an Arbo Unie expert programs the questionnaires beforehand to make it company specific and also because the end result is assessed by the expert.
